Acts 15:22-31
In quei giorni, agli apostoli e agli anziani, con tutta la Chiesa, parve bene di scegliere alcuni di loro e di inviarli ad Antiòchia insieme a Paolo e Bàrnaba: Giuda, chiamato Barsabba, e Sila, uomini di grande autorità tra i fratelli.
And they sent this writing through them: «The apostles and the elders, your brothers, to the brothers of Antioch, Syria and Cilicia, who come from the pagans, greetings!
We have learned that some of us, to whom we had not given any assignment, have come to disturb you with speeches that have upset your souls.
Ci è parso bene perciò, tutti d’accordo, di scegliere alcune persone e inviarle a voi insieme ai nostri carissimi Bàrnaba e Paolo, uomini che hanno rischiato la loro vita per il nome del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo.
We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also tell you these same things orally. Indeed, it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us, not to impose any other obligation on you than these necessary things: to abstain from meat offered to idols, from blood, from animals strangled and from illegitimate unions. You will do well to stay away from these things. You look fine!".
So they took their leave and went down to Antioch; having assembled the assembly, they delivered the letter. When they read it, they rejoiced at the encouragement it gave.

Gv 15,12-17
In quel tempo, disse Gesù ai suoi discepoli:
«Questo è il mio comandamento: che vi amiate gli uni gli altri come io ho amato voi. Nessuno ha un amore più grande di questo: dare la sua vita per i propri amici.
Voi siete miei amici, se fate ciò che io vi comando. Non vi chiamo più servi, perché il servo non sa quello che fa il suo padrone; ma vi ho chiamati amici, perché tutto ciò che ho udito dal Padre mio l’ho fatto conoscere a voi.
Non voi avete scelto me, ma io ho scelto voi e vi ho costituiti perché andiate e portiate frutto e il vostro frutto rimanga; perché tutto quello che chiederete al Padre nel mio nome, ve lo conceda. Questo vi comando: che vi amiate gli uni gli altri».

Charity in action
Come esiste uno zelo amaro, cattivo, che divide da Dio e conduce all’inferno, così c’è uno zelo che allontana dai vizi e conduce a Dio e alla vita eterna.
This is the zeal that the monks must practice with ardent charity, that is: They will honor each other with kindness. They will bear with great patience the infirmities of others, those of the body and those of the spirit. They will obey each other's wish.
Nessuno cercherà ciò che è utile a sé, piuttosto ciò che lo è per gli altri. Svolgeranno castamente i doveri della carità fraterna. Avranno per Dio un timore ispirato dall’amore.
Per l’abate avranno una carità umile e sincera. Non anteporranno assolutamente nulla a Cristo, che si degna di condurci tutti insieme alla vita eterna.
WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
Queste parole, pronunciate durante l’Ultima Cena, riassumono tutto il messaggio di Gesù; anzi, riassumono tutto ciò che Lui ha fatto: Gesù ha dato la vita per i suoi amici.
Amici che non lo avevano capito, che nel momento cruciale lo hanno abbandonato, tradito e rinnegato. Questo ci dice che Egli ci ama pur non essendo noi meritevoli del suo amore: così ci ama Gesù! In questo modo, Gesù show us the way per seguirlo, la strada dell’amore. Il suo comandamento non è un semplice precetto, che rimane sempre qualcosa di astratto o di esteriore rispetto alla vita.
Il comandamento di Cristo è newbecause He first realized it,gave him meat, e così la legge dell’amore è scritta una volta per sempre nel cuore dell’uomo (cfr Ger31,33).
E come è scritta? E’ scritta con il fuoco dello Spirito Santo. E con questo stesso Spirito, che Gesù ci dona, possiamo camminare anche noi su questa strada! (Regina Caeli, May 10, 2015)
