September 17, 2019: intensive care
8.45 am: I slept fully dressed on the bed in the house of Lorella's husband, who was also a patient at Neuromed in a semi-vegetative state after surgery to remove a large brain tumor.
Now I'm already here in front of the door of the intensive care, hoping to be able to come in and say good morning to my Dedo. Yesterday Giuseppina and I had just a few minutes to see him inside the intensive care unit.
An icy cold! Eugenio had big eyes, as never seen before, he was completely naked covered only by a sheet: yet he was boiling, he was very hot.
Then the head doctor of intensive care he explained to us that after a surgical operation, especially like this one, patients have a high fever, at least 40° and therefore must be kept cool.
I'll be playing soon and I hope to find a pious soul who understands my need to be close to my beloved dedon.
While I was coming here I felt the fresh air of the early morning caressing my skin, and I thought that now we had to stay in front of the house to greet Eugenio who was going to school.
No. We are here.
I knocked the first time and they didn't answer. I also knocked at 9.20 and a nurse told me that they would finish changing all the patients and then they would let me in.
The nurse came out: she's going up to the ward!!!!
I'm in fibrillation! I want to tell the whole world. I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone. Street Whatsapp I write it to everyone and everyone is immensely happy about it. Me with them. Everyone is rooting for you, my love, my heart.
It's 10am and I'm waiting for him in front of the elevator on our third floor.
He arrives!
The sweetest and most kind people bring it Yuliya Hrechan and Rossella Cimorelli, working in the NCH III department, where Eugenio is a guest.
The day is long, and slowly Eugenio wakes up and starts looking around.
He's still hot, hot, but that's normal. The succession of doctors and nurses is continuous, incessant, they don't leave us, they don't leave him alone or unmonitored for a minute.
I'd say it's almost nice to be here. At this moment I say "better to stay here, in excellent hands, I don't know where"
I understand that the outside temperature is also very hot, maybe it will be 30 degrees, but Eugenio is impatient and we even give him a fan because of the too much heat.
We are also dazed: it is the first time we find ourselves in a hospital, with our son with his head open from side to side; we don't know what to do, what to say, what to tell him, what to make him do.
Does not speak. Every now and then we look into each other's eyes. We would like to take him back, back in time, to his normal life.
It is not possible.
We can only give him an object from his past time, from his "normal" life: his smartphone.
He plays with it a little, leaves it a little and takes it again: he too paws at it with his new hat on his head, from the top of which comes a small tube that bleeds the cerebral fluid and the access of blood due to the operation.
It should become completely white: it means that there is no longer any excess blood. And it won't have to come out again, a sign that the excessive pressure in the skull has been eradicated.
At 6pm all her closest friends from her class arrive: Nicola, Anna, Jennipher, Giada and Sofia
I confess: the emotion is so, so much, too much.
I would have preferred a classic Tuesday at home, with work, with family, with basketball.
From the Ponsillo gym in Caiazzo (CE), training ground for his beloved basketball, we receive signs of brotherhood and affection.
Eugenio is there and he isn't there. With people rummaging through your brain, I'd like to see!
