Book of Haggai 1,15b.2,1-9.

The second year of King Darius.
On the twenty-first of the seventh month, this word of the Lord was revealed through the prophet Haggai:
“Arise, speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judea, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, high priest, and to all the rest of the people:
Who among you is still alive who has seen this house in its original splendor? But in what conditions do you see it now? Compared to that, isn't it reduced to nothing in your eyes?
Now, courage, Zerubbabel – oracle of the Lord – courage, Joshua son of Jehozedak, high priest; courage, all the people of the land, says the Lord, and to work, for I am with you – oracle of the Lord of hosts –
according to the word of the covenant which I made with you when you came out of Egypt; my spirit will be with you, do not be afraid.”
Indeed, the Lord of hosts says: “Just a little while longer, and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
I will shake all the nations and the riches of all the people will flow in, and I will fill this house with my glory, says the Lord of hosts.
The silver is mine and the gold is mine, says the Lord of hosts.
The future glory of this house will be greater than it once was, says the Lord of hosts; in this place I will bring peace.”

Give me justice, O God,
defend my cause against ruthless people;
deliver me from the iniquitous and deceitful man.

You are the God of my defense;
why do you reject me,
why do I go away sad, oppressed by the enemy?

Send your truth and your light;
let them guide me,
take me to your holy mountain
and your homes.

I will come to the altar of God,
to the God of my joy, of my jubilation.

One day, while Jesus was praying in a secluded place and his disciples were with him, he asked them this question: «Who am I according to people?".
They replied: «For some John the Baptist, for others Elijah, for others one of the ancient prophets who has risen".
Then he asked: «But who do you say I am?». Peter, speaking, replied: «The Christ of God".
He then strictly ordered them not to tell anyone about it.
"The Son of Man, he said, must suffer greatly, be reprobated by the elders, the chief priests and the scribes, be put to death and be resurrected on the third day".

“The Son of Man must suffer greatly…, be put to death and be resurrected on the third day”

Nella mia stoltezza, mi meravigliavo che la grande sapienza di Dio non avesse impedito all’inizio il peccato, poiché se così avesse fatto, mi sembrava, tutto sarebbe andato bene. (…) Gesù mi rispose: “Il peccato era ineluttabile, ma tutto finirà bene, tutto finirà bene, ogni cosa, qualunque sia, finirà bene”. In questa semplice parola: “peccato” nostro Signore ha mostrato al mio spirito tutto ciò che non è buono: il disprezzo ignobile e le tribolazioni estreme che ha sofferto per noi, durante la sua vita e la sua morte; tutte le sofferenze e i dolori, nel corpo e nell’anima, di tutte le creature. (…) Contemplavo tutte le sofferenze che sono state e che saranno, ed ho capito che la Passione di Cristo è stata la più grande, la più dolorosa e le supera tutte. (…) Ma non ho visto il peccato. So infatti, per fede, che esso non ha né sostanza né alcun modo di essere; non lo si potrebbe riconoscere se non per la sofferenza che procura. Ho capito che questa sofferenza è per un periodo; ci purifica; ci conduce a conoscere noi stessi e a gridare misericordia. La Passione di nostro Signore ci fortifica contro il peccato e la sofferenza: questa è la sua volontà. Nel suo tenero amore verso tutti coloro che saranno salvati, il nostro buon Signore li riconforta prontamente e amabilmente, come se dicesse loro: “E’ vero che il peccato è causa di tutti questi dolori, ma tutto finirà bene: ogni cosa, qualunque sia, finirà bene”. Queste parole, me le ha dette molto teneramente, senza il minimo biasimo. (…) In queste parole, ho visto un mistero profondo e meraviglioso nascosto in Dio. Questo mistero, ce lo rivelerà e farà conoscere pienamente in cielo. Quando lo conosceremo, vedremo in tutta verità per quale ragione egli ha permesso la venuta del peccato nel mondo. E vedendo, ci rallegreremo per l’eternità.
