Read the Plea to Our Lady of Pompeii

Supplication to Our Lady of Pompeii: recited in the Shrine of Pompeii and in other churches on 8 May and the first Sunday of October

O august Queen of Victories, O Sovereign of heaven and earth, to whose name the heavens rejoice and tremble the abyss, O glorious Queen of the Rosary, we devoted your children, gathered in your temple of Pompeii (on this solemn day), we pour out the affections of our heart and with confidence of children we express our miseries.

From the throne of clemency, where you sit Regina, turn, O Mary, your pitiful gaze on us, on our families, on Italy, on Europe, on the world. Take compassion for the troubles and travails that embitter our lives. You see, O Mother, how many dangers in soul and body, how many calamities and afflictions force us.

O Mother, implore mercy for us from your divine Son and overcome with clemency the hearts of sinners. They are our brothers and children of yours who cost blood to the sweet Jesus and counteract your most sensitive Heart. Show yourself to all as you are, Queen of peace and forgiveness.

Ave Maria

It is true that we, first, although your children, with sins, return to crucify Jesus in our hearts and we pierce your heart again.

We confess it: we are deserving of the harshest punishments, but you remember that, on the Golgotha, you collected, with the divine Blood, the testament of the dying Redeemer, who declared you our Mother, Mother of sinners.

You, therefore, as our Mother, are our advocate, our hope. And we, moaning, stretch out our pleading hands to you, crying out: mercy!

O good Mother, have mercy on us, on our souls, on our families, on our relatives, on our friends, on our deceased, especially on our enemies and on many who call themselves Christians, yet they offend the loving heart of your Son. Today we implore for the misguided nations, for all of Europe, for the whole world, so that repentant return to your heart.

Mercy for all, Mother of mercy.

Ave Maria

Worthy, O Mary, to grant us! Jesus put in your hands all the treasures of his graces and his mercies.

You sit, crowned Queen, at the right hand of your Son, shining with immortal glory on all the choirs of angels. You stretch your dominion for as far as the heavens are, to you the earth and the creatures all are subject.

You are the Almighty by grace, so you can help us. If you didn’t want to help us, because you were ungrateful and undeserving children of your protection, we wouldn’t know who to turn to. Your Mother’s heart will not allow us, your children, to be seen lost. The child we see on your knees and the mystical crown we aim for in your hand, inspire us confidence that we will be fulfilled.

And we trust in you, we abandon ourselves as weak children in the arms of the most tender among mothers, and, today, we wait for you to sigh thanks.

Ave Maria

One last grace we now ask you, O Queen, that you cannot deny us (on this most solemn day). Grant all of us your constant love and in a special way the maternal blessing.

We’re not gonna break away from you until you’ve blessed us. Bless, O Mary, at this moment the Supreme Pontiff. To the ancient splendours of your crown, to the triumphs of your Rosary, so that you are called Queen of Victories, add this again, Mother: grant triumph to religion and peace to human society. Bless our bishops, priests, and especially all those who zeal the honor of your Shrine. Finally, bless all the associates of your temple in Pompeii and all those who cultivate and promote devotion to the Holy Rosary.

O Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain that will sent us to God, bond of love that unites us to the angels, tower of salvation, in the assaults of hell, safe harbor in the common shipwreck, we will never leave you again.

You will be comforting us in the hour of agony, to you the last kiss of life that goes out.

And the last accent of our lips will be your sweet name, or Queen of the Rosary of Pompeii, O Our Dear Mother, or Refuge of sinners, or Sovereign comforter of the meek.

Be everywhere, blessed, today and always, on earth and in heaven. Amen.
