O Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we, in this hour of tribulation, resort to you. You are Mother, you love us and you know us: nothing is hidden from you than we care about. Mother of mercy, so many times we have experienced your provident tenderness, your presence that brings peace, so that you may always guide us to Jesus, Prince of peace.
But we have lost the way of peace. We have forgotten the lesson of the tragedies of the last century, the sacrifice of millions of fallen in the world wars. We have disregarded the commitments made as a Community of Nations and are betraying the dreams of peace of the peoples and the hopes of the young. We fell ill with greed, locked ourselves in nationalist interests, let ourselves be dried up by indifference and paralyze from selfishness.
We preferred to ignore God, to live with our falsehoods, to fuel aggression, to suppress lives and to accumulate weapons, forgetting that we are guardians of our neighbor and of the common home itself. We have torn the garden of the Earth with war, we have wounded with sin the heart of our Father, who wants us brothers and sisters. We have become indifferent to everyone and everything but ourselves. And with shame we say: forgive us, Lord!
In the misery of sin, in our labors and frailties, in the mystery of iniquity of evil and war, you, the Holy Mother, remind us that God does not abandon us, but continues to look at us with love, eager to forgive and rise again. It is He who has given us you and has placed in your immaculate Heart a refuge for the Church and for humanity. By divine goodness you are with us and even in the narrowest hairpin bends of history lead us with tenderness.
So let us turn to you, we knock on the door of your Heart we, your dear children who at all times do not tire of visiting and inviting you to conversion. In this dark hour come and help us and console us. Repeat to each of us: “Are I not here, who am your Mother?” You know how to untie the tangles of our heart and the knots of our time. We put our trust in you. We are certain that you, especially at the moment of trial, do not despise our supplications and come to our aid.
So you did in Cana of Galilee, when you rushed the hour of Jesus’ intervention and introduced his first sign into the world. When the feast had turned into sadness you said to him, “They have no wine” (Jn 2:3). Repeat it again to God, O Mother, because today we have exhausted the wine of hope, joy has disappeared, fraternity has been watered down. We have lost humanity, we have wasted peace. We have become capable of all violence and destruction. We urgently need your maternal intervention.
Therefore accept, O Mother, this supplication of ours.
You, star of the sea, don’t let us be shipwrecked in the storm of war. You, the ark of the new alliance, inspires projects and ways of reconciliation. You, “the earth of Heaven”, bring God’s concord back to the world.
Extinguish hatred, appease revenge, teach us forgiveness.
Free us from war, preserve the world from the nuclear threat. Queen of the Rosary, the need to pray and to love is awakened in us. Queen of the human family, show peoples the way of fraternity. Queen of peace, get the world peace.
Your weeping, O Mother, move our hardened hearts. The tears that you have shed for us make this valley bloom again that our hatred has drained. And while the sound of arms is not silent, your prayer will dispose us to peace. Your maternal hands caress those who suffer and flee under the weight of the bombs. Your maternal embrace consoles those who are forced to leave their homes and their country. May your sorrowful Heart move us to compassion and urge us to open the doors and take care of wounded and discarded humanity.
Holy Mother of God, while you were under the cross, Jesus, seeing the disciple beside you, said to you: “Behold your son” (Jn 19:26): so he entrusted you with each of us. Then to the disciple, to each of us, he said, “Behold, your mother” (v. 27). Mother, we now wish to welcome you into our lives and history. At this hour humanity, exhausted and distorted, is under the cross with you. And he needs to rely on you, to consecrate himself to Christ through you. The Ukrainian people and the Russian people, who worship you with love, resort to you, while your Heart throbs for them and for all the peoples mowed down by war, hunger, injustice and misery.
We, therefore, Mother of God and ours, solemnly entrust and consecrate to your immaculate Heart ourselves, the Church and the whole of humanity, in a special way Russia and Ukraine. Accept this act of ours that we carry out with trust and love, let war cease, provide for the world peace. The yes flowing from your Heart opened the doors of history to the Prince of Peace; we trust that still, through your Heart, peace will come. To you therefore we consecrate the future of the entire human family, the needs and expectations of the peoples, the anxieties and the hopes of the world.
Through you pour out on the Earth the divine Mercy and the sweet beat of peace return to mark our days. Woman of yes, on whom the Holy Spirit descended, brings among us the harmony of God. Quench the aridity of our heart, you who “are of hope lively fountain.” You have woven humanity to Jesus, make us artisans of communion. You walked our streets, guided us on the paths of peace. Amen.
