Caro Eugene, provo un certo sconforto a pronunciare il nome del nuovo anno: 2023

This is because the day when you left your last smile in front of our eyes is even further away. It was October 17, 2020.

It scares me not to smell your skin anymore, the color of your small and capacious hands, the goliardic and instinctive smile.

Many greeting messages, few reached my heart straight.

Preghiamo la Madre in modo speciale per i sons che soffrono e non hanno più la forza di pregare, per tanti fratelli e sorelle colpiti dalla guerra in molte parti del mondo, che vivono questi giorni di festa immersi nella violenza e nell’indifferenza.

The thing that hurts me the most is the detachment, the indifference with which we treat history, events: those who make noise, who echo in the void of empty souls are treated with greater commitment, with all possible enthusiasm. Those instead that do not touch our soul, which are not "social“, which have no echo, are not really considered, or at best are treated as collateral events, almost like a side street to our main shopping avenue.

That's why the Holy Father Francis tell us:

Celebrando oggi la Giornata Mondiale della Pace, preghiamo Maria Santissima, Madre di God, perché in questa epoca inquinata dalla diffidenza e dall’indifferenza ci renda capaci di compassione e di cura.

Indifference and mistrust. The evils that pollute our soul, modern, emancipated, politically correct, but poor and barren in gift and feelings.

We learn and listen to nature: every day it gives, every day it loves, every day it is reborn.
