Naboth was stoned and died.

1 Kings 21,1b-16

In quel tempo, Nabot di Izreèl possedeva una vigna che era a Izreèl, vicino al palazzo di Acab, re di Samarìa. Acab disse a Nabot: «Cedimi la tua vigna; ne farò un orto, perché è confinante con la mia casa. Al suo posto ti darò una vigna migliore di quella, oppure, se preferisci, te la pagherò in denaro al prezzo che vale».

Nabot rispose ad Acab: «Mi guardi il Signore dal cederti l’eredità dei miei padri».
Acab se ne andò a casa amareggiato e sdegnato per le parole dettegli da Nabot di Izreèl, che aveva affermato: «Non ti cederò l’eredità dei miei padri!».

Si coricò sul letto, voltò la faccia da un lato e non mangiò niente. Entrò da lui la moglie Gezabèle e gli domandò: «Perché mai il tuo animo è tanto amareggiato e perché non vuoi mangiare?». Le rispose: «Perché ho detto a Nabot di Izreèl: “Cedimi la tua vigna per denaro, o, se preferisci, ti darò un’altra vigna” ed egli mi ha risposto: “Non cederò la mia vigna!”».

Then his wife Jezebèle said to him: «Do you thus exercise the royal power over Israel? Get up, eat and your heart rejoices. I will let you have the vineyard of Nabot of Izreèl!».
Ella scrisse lettere con il nome di Acab, le sigillò con il suo sigillo, quindi le spedì agli anziani e ai notabili della città, che abitavano vicino a Nabot. Nelle lettere scrisse: «Bandite un digiuno e fate sedere Nabot alla testa del popolo. Di fronte a lui fate sedere due uomini perversi, i quali l’accusino: “Hai maledetto God e il re!”. Quindi conducetelo fuori e lapidatelo ed egli muoia».

Gli uomini della città di Nabot, gli anziani e i notabili che abitavano nella sua città, fecero come aveva ordinato loro Gezabèle, ossia come era scritto nelle lettere che aveva loro spedito. Bandirono un digiuno e fecero sedere Nabot alla testa del popolo.

Giunsero i due uomini perversi, che si sedettero di fronte a lui. Costoro accusarono Nabot davanti al popolo affermando: «Nabot ha maledetto God e il re». Lo condussero fuori della città e lo lapidarono ed egli morì. Quindi mandarono a dire a Gezabèle: «Nabot è stato lapidato ed è morto».

As soon as Jezebèle heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, he said to Ahab: «Come on, take possession of the vineyard of Nabot of Izreèl, who refused to give it to you in exchange for money, because Nabot no longer lives, he is dead». When she heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth of Izreèl to take possession of it.

The Word of June 13, 2022 — Jesus e i discepoli

I tell you not to oppose the evil one.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 5:38-42

During that time, Jesus disse ai suoi discepoli:
"You have understood that it was said: "An eye for an eye" and "a tooth for a tooth".

But I tell you, do not oppose the wicked one; indeed, if someone slaps you on the right cheek, you give him the other one too, and to anyone who wants to take you to court and take your tunic, give him your cloak as well.
And if anyone forces you to go with him one mile, go with him two.
Give to those who ask you, and to those who want a loan from you, don't turn your back".

I tell you not to oppose the evil one

« Sopportatevi a vicenda con love, cercando di conservare l’unità dello spirito per mezzo del vincolo della pace » (Ef 4, 2-3).

Neither unity nor peace can be preserved if i brothers they do not support each other with mutual forbearance and do not maintain the bond of concord with the help of patience… Forgive a tuo fratello che commette colpe verso di te non solo settanta volte sette, ma assolutamente tutte le sue colpe, amare il nemico, pregare per i tuoi nemici e i tuoi persecutori (Mt 5,39.44; 18,22).

How to be able to fulfill all this without being stuck in the patience and tolerant? This is what Saint Stephen did… when, far from crying out for vengeance, he asked grace per i suoi carnefici dicendo: « Signore, non imputar loro questo peccato » (Ac 7,60). Così si è comportato il primo martire di Christ…, che si è fatto non soltanto predicatore della Passion del Signore, ma anche imitatore della sua estrema mitezza.

Cosa dire dell’ira, della discordia, dell’ipocrisia? Non hanno posto in un Christian. Nel cuore deve essere la pazienza; quindi non vi si può trovare nessuno di questi vizi… L’apostolo Paolo ci avverte: « Non vogliate rattristare lo Spirito Santo di God…; scompaia da voi ogni asprezza, ira e maldicenza » (Ef 4,30-31).

Se il Christian sfuggirà agli smarrimenti e agli attacchi della nostra natura decaduta, come ad un mare in tempesta, stabilirà se stesso nella pace, nel porto di Christ, non ammetterà nel suo cuore né ira né discordia; non gli è permesso di rendere il male ricevuto (Rom 12,17), né di concepire l’odio.
