READING OF THE DAY
From the Acts of Apostles
At 1,15-17.20-26
In those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers - the number of people gathered was about one hundred and twenty - and said: «Brothers, it was necessary that what was foretold in the Scriptures be fulfilled by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became the guide of those they arrested Jesus. In fact, he had been of our number and had had the same ministry as our lot. He is written infaati in the book of Psalms:
“His abode becomes deserted
and no one lives there".
and: “Let another take his office”.
It is therefore necessary that, among those who have been with us all the time in which the Lord Jesus lived among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which he was taken up from us into heaven, one becomes a witness, together with us, of his resurrection".
They proposed two: Giuseppe, known as Barsabba, nicknamed Giusto, and Mattia. Then they prayed, saying, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship, which Judas abandoned to go to his rightful place." They cast lots among themselves and the lot fell on Matthias, who was associated with the eleven apostles.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Second Gospel John
Jn 15:9-17
During that time, Jesus he said to his disciples:
"As the Father he loved me, I also loved you. Stay in mine love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in mine love, as I have kept the commandments of the Father mine and I remain in his love. I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. Nobody has a love greater than this: to give his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you servants, because the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all that I have heard from Father mine I made known to you.
You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and I have made you so that you go and bear fruit and your fruit remains; because everything you ask the Father in my name, grant it to you. This I command you: love one another."
WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER
There are other loves. Even the world offers us other loves: thelove to money for example, thelove to vanity, to preen, thelove to pride, thelove in power, even doing many unjust things to have more power … They are other loves, these are not of Jesus and I'm not from Father. He asks us to stay inlove his that is thelove of Father. Let us also think of these other loves which distance us fromlove of Jesus. And also, there are other measures of loving: loving halfway, this is not loving. It is one thing to love and another thing to love. And so, doing these commandments that Jesus gave us, we will stay in thelove of Jesus which is thelove of Father, it's the same. Without size. Without this love warm or interested. 'But why, Lord, do you remind us of these things?', we can ask him. 'For my joy to be in you and your joy to be full'. if thelove of Father comes to Jesus, Jesus teaches us the waylove: an open heart, to love without measure, leaving aside other loves.
