The Gentleman fece sorgere dei judges, ma neppure a loro davano ascolto.

From the book of Judges
Judge 2,11-19

In quei giorni, gli Israeliti fecero ciò che è bad agli occhi del Signore e servirono i Baal; abbandonarono il Signore, God dei loro fathers, che li aveva fatti uscire dalla land d’Egitto, e seguirono altri dèi tra quelli dei popoli circostanti: si prostrarono davanti a loro e provocarono il Signore, abbandonarono il Signore e servirono Baal e le Astarti.

Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he put them in hand a predatori che li depredarono; li vendette ai nemici che stavano loro intorno, ed essi non potevano più tener testa ai nemici. In tutte le loro spedizioni la mano del Signore era per il male, contro di loro, come il Signore aveva detto, come il Signore aveva loro giurato: furono ridotti all’estremo.

Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them. But they didn't even listen to their judges, rather they prostituted themselves to other gods and prostrated themselves before them. They soon abandoned the way followed by their fathers, who had obeyed the commands of the Lord: they did not do so.

Quando il Signore suscitava loro dei giudici, il Signore era con il giudice e li salvava dalla mano dei loro nemici durante tutta the life del giudice, perché il Signore si muoveva a compassione per i loro gemiti davanti a quelli che li opprimevano e li maltrattavano.

But when the judge died, they returned to becoming more corrupt than their fathers, following other gods to serve them and prostrate themselves before them: they did not desist from their practices and from their obstinate conduct.

They served their idols
and these were a trap for them.

They polluted themselves with their deeds,

Many times he had freed them,
yet they persisted in their plans

Today's Gospel August 21, 2023

Se vuoi essere perfetto, vendi quello che possiedi e avrai un tesoro nel sky.

Mt 19,16-22

In quel tempo, un tale si avvicinò e gli disse: «Maestro, che cosa devo fare di buono per avere la life eterna?». Gli rispose: «Perché mi interroghi su ciò che è buono? Buono è uno solo. Se vuoi entrare nella vita, osserva i comandamenti». Gli chiese: «Quali?».

Jesus he replied, "You shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor the father e la mother e amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso».

The young gli disse: «Tutte queste cose le ho osservate; che altro mi manca?».

Gli disse Gesù: «Se vuoi essere perfetto, va’, vendi quello che possiedi, dallo ai poveri e avrai un tesoro nel cielo; e vieni! Seguimi!».

Udita questa parola, il giovane se ne andò, triste; possedeva infatti molte ricchezze.

Heaven's love must pass before any other thought

L’amore celeste … consiste per l’uomo nel conoscere e riconoscere Dio amandolo più di tutto.

Questo amore proclama: “Dolce vita e dolce abbraccio della vita eterna, beata happiness nella quale risiedono le ricompense eterne, tu che sei sempre fatta di vere delizie, così che mai, infatti, posso esser riempita né saziata dalla joy interiore che è nel mio Dio”.

L’amore del Cielo deve passar prima di ogni altro thought. Ed ogni opera buona è fatta di due parti: l’amore di Dio e l’amore dell’uomo. La disciplina segue l’amore del Cielo. E’ come un bambino, poiché non vuol essere potente compiendo la sua volontà, ma vuol restare fedelmente nel timore, il ritegno ed il rispetto. Per la wedding ring nell’amore, l’uomo si lega lui stesso alla legge della disciplina. (…) La virtù della mercy si leva per andare verso i poveri.

Poiché la misericordia della sua grace si trova nel heart del Padre eterno. Ho messo mio Son nel seno della misericordia, quando l’ho inviato nel seno della Vergine Mary. Giustificato dalle virtù l’uomo diviene capace di guardare la miseria del prossimo e di aiutarlo come se stesso nei veri bisogni. La misericordia mormora: “Tendo sempre le mani agli stranieri, ai disgraziati, ai poveri, agli infermi e a coloro che piangono.”.

Dopo la misericordia si leva la vittoria con la quale l’uomo vince se stesso e i vizi altrui. (…) Infine, la pazienza e il gemito dell’anima possiedono una sweetness che evita all’uomo di esser schiacciato dalle prove. Libero da ogni pensiero secolare, si volge verso ciò che è eterno in Dio nella vita futura.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER

What is faith for me? If it is primarily a duty or a bargaining chip, we are off track, because salvation is a gift and not a duty, it is free and cannot be bought.

“La prima cosa da fare è liberarci di una fede commerciale e meccanica, che insinua l’immagine falsa di un Dio contabile e controllore, non padre.”

La tua fede è stanca e vuoi rinvigorirla? Cerca lo sguardo di Dio: mettiti in adorazione, lasciati perdonare nella Confessione, stai davanti al Crocifisso.

Insomma, lasciati amare da Lui. Questo è l’inizio della fede. “Quante volte ci accontentiamo dei doveri – i precetti e qualche prayer – mentre Dio, che ci dà la vita, ci domanda slanci di vita!”

Una fede senza dono, senza gratuità, senza opere di carità alla fine rende tristi: come quel tale che, pur guardato con amore da Gesù in persona, tornò a home “rattristato” e “scuro in volto”. (Angelus, October 10, 2021)
