Thursday of the XX week of Ordinary Time holidays

First Reading

I will give you a new heart. I will place my spirit within you.

From the book of the prophet Ezekièl
Ez 36,23-28

I will take you from the nations, and gather you from every land, and bring you to your own soil. I will sprinkle you with pure water and you will be cleansed; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols; I will give you a new heart, I will put a new spirit within you, I will remove your heart of stone from you and give you a heart of flesh.

I will put my spirit within you and cause you to live according to my laws and cause you to observe and do my standards. You will live in the land which I gave to your fathers; you will be my people and I will be your God."

God's word.

Responsorial Psalm
From Ps 50 (51)

A. I will sprinkle you with pure water and you will be purified.

Create in me, O God, a pure heart,
renew in me a steadfast spirit.
Don't drive me out of your presence
and do not deprive me of your holy spirit.R.

Give me back the joy of your salvation,
support me with a generous spirit.
I will teach the rebels your ways
and sinners will return to you.R.

You don't like sacrifice;
if I offer burnt offerings, you do not accept them.
A contrite spirit is a sacrifice to God;
a contrite and broken heart you, O God, do not despise.R.

Gospel acclamation

Do not harden your heart today,
ma ascoltate la voce del Signore. (Cf. Sal 94 (95),8ab)

Alleluia.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 22,1-14

Vangelo secondo Matteo 22,1-14

At that time, Jesus resumed speaking in parables [to the chief priests and the Pharisees] and said:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He sent his servants to call the guests to the wedding, but they did not want to come.

Again he sent other servants with this order: “Tell those invited: Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened animals are already killed and all is ready; come to the wedding!”. But they didn't care and went some to their own field, some to their own business; others then took his servants, insulted them and killed them. Then the king was indignant: he sent his troops, had the assassins killed, and set their city on fire.

Then he said to his servants: “The wedding feast is ready, but the guests were not worthy; go now to the crossroads of the roads and all those you find, call them to the wedding". Going out into the streets, those servants gathered all those they found, good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

The king went in to see the diners and there he saw a man who was not wearing a wedding dress. He said to him: "Friend, how come you came in here without the wedding dress?". That fell silent. Then the king ordered the servants: “Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Because many are called, but few are chosen."

Homilies on the veil of Moses

“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding feast for his son”

He saw the veil spread over their splendor, and he lifted it to reveal Christ and his Bride to the whole world. He showed that it was indeed them that Moses had described in the prophetic vision. Rejoicing with supernatural joy, the apostle proclaims: "This mystery is great" (Eph 5:32). He revealed what this veiled image represented that the prophet called man and woman: "I say it, he says, in reference to Christ and the Church that they are no longer two but one" (Eph 5:31).

WORDS OF HOLY FATHER

(Angelus, October 11, 2020)
