First Reading

Every event has its time under heaven.

From the book of Qoheleth
Qo 3,1-11
 
Everything has its moment, and every event has its time under heaven.
There is a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.

A time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build.
A time to cry and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance.

A time to throw stones and a time to pick them up,
a time to hug and a time to refrain from hugs.
A time to seek and a time to lose,
a time to keep and a time to throw away.

A time to tear and a time to sew,
a time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What gain does he who works hard?
Ho considerato l’occupazione che God ha dato agli uomini perché vi si affatichino. Egli ha fatto bella ogni cosa a suo tempo; inoltre ha posto nel loro cuore la durata dei tempi, senza però che gli uomini possano trovare la ragione di ciò che God compie dal principio alla fine.

Luke 9:18-22

Un giorno Jesus si trovava in un luogo solitario a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli pose loro questa domanda: «Le folle, chi dicono che io sia?». Essi risposero: «Giovanni il Battista; altri dicono Elìa; altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto».

Allora domandò loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». Pietro rispose: «Il Christ of God".
Egli ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo ad alcuno. «Il Son dell’uomo – disse – deve soffrire molto, essere rifiutato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, venire ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».

"But who do you say I am?"

Chi è Jesus per me? Il Verbo fatto carne (Gv 1,14). Il pane di vita (Gv 6,35). La vittima che si offre sulla croce per i nostri peccati (1Gv 4,19).

Il sacrificio offerto nella santa messa per i peccati del mondo e miei personali (Gv1,29). La parola che devo dire. La verità da dire. Il cammino che devo seguire (Gv 14,6). La luce che devo accendere (Gv 8,12). La vita che devo vivere. L’love che deve essere amato. La gioia che dobbiamo condividere. Il sacrificio che dobbiamo offrire. La pace che dobbiamo seminare. Il pane di vita che dobbiamo mangiare. L’affamato che dobbiamo sfamare (Mt 25,35).

L’assetato che dobbiamo dissetare. Il nudo che dobbiamo vestire. Il senzatetto al quale dobbiamo offrire riparo. Il malato da curare. Il solitario al quale dobbiamo far compagnia. L’inatteso che dobbiamo accogliere. Il lebbroso le cui ferite dobbiamo lavare. Il mendicante che dobbiamo soccorrere. L’alcolizzato che dobbiamo ascoltare.

Il disabile che dobbiamo aiutare. Il neonato che dobbiamo accogliere. Il cieco che dobbiamo guidare. Il muto a cui dobbiamo prestare la nostra voce. Lo storpio che dobbiamo aiutare a camminare. Il drogato a cui offrire la nostra amicizia.

La prostituta che dobbiamo allontanare dal pericolo e proteggerla con affetto. Il detenuto che dobbiamo visitare.

L’anziano che dobbiamo servire. Per me Jesus è il mio God. Jesus è il mio sposo. Jesus è la mia vita. Jesus è il mio unico love. Jesus è tutto per me, ogni persona e ogni cosa. Jesus, ti amo con tutto il mio cuore, con tutto il mio essere.

WORDS OF THE HOLY FATHER

Le grandi svolte della missione di Jesus sono sempre precedute dalla preghiera, ma non così en passant, dalla preghiera intensa, prolungata.

Questa verifica della fede sembra un traguardo e invece è un rinnovato punto di partenza per i discepoli, perché, da lì in avanti, è come se Jesus salisse di un tono nella sua missione, parlando loro apertamente della sua passione, morte e risurrezione.

In this perspective, which instinctively arouses repulsion, both in the disciples and in us who read the Gospel, prayer is the only source of light and strength. It is necessary to pray more intensely every time the road turns uphill. (General Audience, June 2, 2021)
