I enter the text (Jn 15:1-8)

In quel tempo, disse Gesù ai suoi discepoli: «Io sono la vite vera e il Padre mio è l’agricoltore.

Every branch that doesn't bear fruit in me, he cuts it, and every branch that bears fruit, prune it so that it bears more fruit.

You are already pure, because of the word that I have announced to you. Remain in me and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself if it does not remain in the vine, neither can you if you do not remain in me.

I am the vine, you are the branches.

Whoever remains in me, and I in him, bears much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Whoever does not remain in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; then they collect it, throw it into the fire and burn it.

Se rimanete in me e le mie parole rimangono in voi, chiedete quello che volete e vi sarà fatto. In questo è glorificato il Padre mio: che portiate molto frutto e diventiate miei discepoli».

I get inspired

«You are already pure, because of the word that I have announced to you». This word strikes me because I feel impure. "I am the vine, you are the branches."

This word strikes me because I feel alone, separated from you. No sap passes from the depths, I don't see bunches of grapes growing on my branches. How can I believe this word?

Yet, it arrives just today. Maybe my trunk is enlivened by a sap that I don't feel flowing, maybe my branches are full of fruit that I don't see.

Forse davvero si tratta di rimanere. Gustare fino in fondo quello che mi è dato, stare senza giudizi su quello che penso e che vivo per come lo penso e lo vivo. Scoprirmi figlio così come sono.

Stay, when else would tell me to leave; keep digging down with all my fibers and roots in search of water, and stop distracting me with new and always different grafts.

E chiedere, chiedere sempre, senza fermarmi e senza ridurre la misura del mio desiderio; con la certezza sempre rinnovata di essere amato e ascoltato dal Padre.

Holy Mary, Virgin of the noon, give us the thrill of light.

We are experiencing too much the going out of our lanterns, and the decline of power ideologies, and the lengthening of twilight shadows on the narrow paths of the earth, not to feel nostalgia for the midday sun.

Strappaci dalla desolazione dello smarrimento e ispiraci l’umiltà della ricerca. Abbevera la nostra arsura di grazia nel cavo della tua mano.

Bring us back to the faith that another Mother, poor and good like you, passed on to us when we were children, and that perhaps one day we partly sold out for a miserable portion of lentils.

Tu, mendicante dello Spirito, riempi le nostre anfore di olio destinato a bruciare dinanzi a Dio: ne abbiamo già fatto ardere troppo davanti agli idoli del deserto.

Make us capable of superhuman abandonments in Him. Temper our carnal pride. Grant that the light of faith, even when it assumes prophetic denunciation accents, does not make us arrogant or presumptuous, but gives us the joy of tolerance and understanding.

Soprattutto, però, liberaci dalla tragedia che il nostro credere in Dio rimanga estraneo alle scelte concrete di ogni momento sia pubbliche che private, e corra il rischio di non diventare mai carne e sangue sull’ altare della ferialità.
